Selection Methodology

Deciding which applications to adopt and deploy inside your business can be a challenging task. Along with the promised benefits come risks such as issues of compatibility, usability, scalability, and often legality. We have evolved and combined a series of frameworks, based on tested methodologies and actual first-hand experience to assist businesses in solving these challenges.

Solution Selection Methodology (SSM)

We use a combination of first-hand market knowledge, in-house research and a rigorously quantified model influenced by the Business Readiness Ratingâ„¢ (BRR) and Open Source Maturity Modelâ„¢OSMM in the evaluation and application of our solutions.

The ultimate goal of the BRR, is to give companies a trusted, unbiased method for determining whether the open source software they are considering is mature enough to be adopted in a production environment.

The Business Readiness Rating model is an open, flexible, yet standardized model used within the BRR to apply metrics in the evaluation of open source software.

The Open Source Maturity Modelâ„¢ (OSMM) is a formal process to assess the maturity level of open source software. The OSMM is a process that evaluates open source products in all critical dimensions: software, support, documentation, training, integration, and service availability.

Evaluation criteria

  • Functionality
  • Usability
  • Quality
  • Security
  • Performance
  • Scalability
  • Architecture
  • Support

  • Community
  • Professionalism

Benefits

The evaluation of open source software is a critical task for business IT managers who are often faced with risk. This complicates open source adoption as companies assessing open source software can rarely learn from each other’s past experiences. Our SSM gives businesses a trusted framework, approach and methodology to minimise the risk of adopting open source software.

Advantages

Our SSM allows for broad implementation of a systematic and transparent assessment of open source software enabling you to make informed decisions when evaluating open source software.
